Carmela Baxter

Carmela Baxter, Founder of the Silky Oak Espresso Group and now Silky Oak Support Services.  Wife, Mother, Foster Carer, winner of the Ted Tremayne Business Award on the 2020 Lilley Honours List and the  recipient of the Professor Ian Frazer Humanitarian Award - Lions International.  Carmela has a long history in wanting to serve the community. Proudly supporting 16 young persons in her own home as a foster carer with her husband, Glen, and now 3 adult children, her family gained respect from organisations in regards to helping break down barriers.  Carmela has worked with and advocated for a multitude of charities - Broken To Brilliant, Fr Chris ReillyYouth off the Streets, Meals on Wheels, Lions International, Uniting Care Community and many others.


Glen Baxter

Glen has spent the last 20 years advocating for himself and people who live with a disability.  After being diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), and three years later becoming legally blind, Glen has the respect of his friends family and extended members of the community due to his positive attitude towards inclusion and acceptance.  Glen has sat on the board of multiple not for profit organisations supporting persons with a disability.  He was a founding member of Blind Golf Qld,  is an active club member at a Brisbane Indoor Target Rifle Club  and most recently enjoying the challenges of Archery,  He is an accomplished cyclist and participated in the Sydney to Surfers ride supporting Father Chris Riley's Youth Off The Streets - 1000km on a Tandem bicycle. Glen has been  an advocate for the inclusion of Vision Impaired persons in all aspects of life.   


Jim & Kris Messina

Our co-founders, Jim & Kris Messina, lead our HQ team and bring the business expertise, experience and support to Silky Oak Support Services. Jim and Kris are also the owners of Alcar Imports and Co-Owners of Main Supply Grooming Products. 

Jim and Kris have led life with a 'hands on' mindset and this is what has lead them to being involved in a range of businesses and initiatives.

Together they bring to the partnership, business strategies, structures and procedures to ensure we are able to coordinate and serve our clients with honesty, integrity and above all giving our clients control and choice.
